What FiberTite is
FiberTite is a single ply roofing membrane manufactured by Seaman Corporation, a family owned company that produces engineered materials at large scale. It is designed for low slope commercial and institutional roofs: the kind of buildings where a roof failure is not an inconvenience but a business interruption.
A single ply membrane is exactly what it sounds like. One engineered sheet keeps the building watertight, with seams heat welded into a continuous, monolithic surface. Unlike older built up roofs that stack multiple layers of asphalt and felt, a single ply system is lighter, faster to install, and easier to inspect over its service life.
NTC supplies FiberTite and the documentation and assembly guidance that go with it. We do not install and we do not manufacture. Seaman Corporation makes the material. NTC gets it specified, delivered, and warranty ready in the Caribbean, working through the independent representative appointment that Terah Owen holds personally.
Why the track record actually means something
Here is the point most specifiers miss. Many single ply membranes sold across the Caribbean over the last two decades have quietly changed their formulations. When a formula changes, the decades of field performance a specifier was relying on no longer describe the product actually being installed. The name stays the same. The material does not.
FiberTite is different. Its formula has stayed consistent since it was introduced, so its long term performance record still applies to what ships today. There are FiberTite roofs in Florida roughly 40 years old where the membrane can still be welded. For an architect or engineer putting a name on a roof specification, that continuity is the difference between a real track record and a marketing claim.
Why it suits Caribbean conditions
Island roofs face a punishing combination of conditions at once:
- Salt air that corrodes fasteners and degrades weaker membranes near the coast.
- Intense, year round UV that breaks down materials not engineered to resist it.
- Hurricane exposure that demands uplift performance and puncture resistance from wind driven debris.
- Heat and thermal cycling that stresses seams and less flexible sheets.
FiberTite is engineered for the extreme end of this range. It is specified on buildings that cannot leak, including data centers, stadiums, and airports, and it resists punctures, fire, UV, and chemical exposure including jet fuel and grease over a long service life. A membrane proven on mission critical mainland facilities is a rational choice for a Caribbean building where replacement is expensive and logistically hard.
What the manufacturer relationship gives you
There are only about 10 to 12 independent FiberTite representatives worldwide. Terah Owen, NTC’s principal, holds that appointment for the Caribbean, which gives specifiers direct access to:
- Manufacturer and technical support routed through NTC, not a call center.
- Specification and documentation support so the product is written correctly into your drawings and submittals.
- Assembly and detailing guidance for penetrations, flashings, and terminations, which is where most single ply roofs actually fail.
- A regional point of contact who understands Caribbean logistics, shipping, and site realities.
How to specify FiberTite
- Define the assembly. Confirm slope, deck type, insulation, and whether the system is mechanically attached or fully adhered.
- Confirm wind and exposure requirements. Coastal and hurricane zone roofs drive attachment patterns and detailing.
- Engage NTC early. Bring us in during design so the specification, membrane thickness, and accessories are correct before bid.
- Plan for the warranty inspections. Warranty ready installations are inspected by the manufacturer.
- Coordinate the installer. NTC supplies the material and guidance; a qualified roofing contractor performs the work.
Most membranes quietly change their formula. FiberTite has not, so its 40 year track record still means something.
Warranty and testing
A manufacturer warranty is available on commercial FiberTite systems. To qualify, manufacturer technical representatives inspect the work at the start, middle, and end of installation, and NTC consults throughout so the project stays on track for warranty approval. Residential warranties are rare exceptions; FiberTite is a commercial and institutional product.
FiberTite systems have also passed Miami Dade product approval testing, a demanding benchmark for wind and impact performance. That is not a Caribbean requirement, but for a specifier it is a useful, independent measure of how the system performs under severe conditions.
